Transfer Credit Transcript Evaluation
If you have previously taken college coursework at another accredited college or university, you may be able to use those courses for your benefit at Skagit Valley College. Previous math and English classes may establish course placement, while other courses may apply toward a degree or certificate at 51³Ô¹Ï.
You should request a transcript evaluation if you...
- Plan to earn a certificate, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree at 51³Ô¹Ï, AND
- Want to use course credits earned from another college to fulfill certificate or degree requirements.
Placement
You may use an official or unofficial college transcript to establish placement at Skagit Valley College. It is recommended that you establish placement before you attend a New Student Registration event.
Option 1: Email your unofficial college transcript(s) to enrollment@skagit.edu and request placement.
Option 2: Request an official transcript be sent to Skagit Valley College and then notify enrollment@skagit.edu that you would like placement.
Option 3: Bring your unofficial transcript to a New Student Registration event and request placement at the Placement Station.
This will process will establish placement at 51³Ô¹Ï, but it will not result in credits being transferred to 51³Ô¹Ï. In order for any courses to apply to your degree pathway at 51³Ô¹Ï, you must have an official transcript evaluated for transfer credits.
Official transcripts submitted to the college become the permanent property of the institution. Once received, transcripts will not be returned to the student or forwarded to any other institution or third party.
Step 1: Order official transcripts from all other accredited colleges or universities you have attended. Transcripts will not be accepted as official if they are emailed by the student or delivered in an opened envelope.

- Paper transcripts should be mailed to Skagit Valley College Enrollment Services, 2405 E. College Way, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
Step 2: Submit a so that our Evaluation Team knows what degree plan you are pursuing at 51³Ô¹Ï. This also notifies us to expect official transcripts.

Transcript evaluations take up to 8 weeks after the Evaluation Team receives the evaluation request and all transcripts. Evaluations may not be completed before the quarter begins, so students must be responsible for their enrollment and ensure that they do not repeat any classes at 51³Ô¹Ï.
The Transfer Evaluation System (TES) is a tool to assist you in understanding how the college credits you completed from another accredited institution will transfer to 51³Ô¹Ï. If the course and/or school is not listed on TES, an equivalent currently does not exist. However, that does not necessarily mean the course won’t be transferred or the school won’t be recognized.
The following courses will not transfer to 51³Ô¹Ï:
- Courses numbered below 100
- Courses specific to one religion
- English as a Second Language/English Language Acquisition courses
- Non-credit continuing education courses
- Courses graded below a ‘D’ or equivalent
Important Notes:
- 51³Ô¹Ï is on the quarter system. Credits from colleges and universities on a semester system transfer by a multiple of 1.5 (Example: 3 semester credits = 4.5 quarter credits).
- Transferred courses will not appear on your official 51³Ô¹Ï transcript, but there will be a note referring to how many transfer credits were accepted.
- Transferred courses will display in ctcLink as the 51³Ô¹Ï course equivalent, not the original course name and number.
- Transferred courses will display in ctcLink as completed on the date the credits were transferred, not when the course was actually completed.
